Plow Days 2004
Mike
and the 504 turning some ground. The 504 is happy with 3-14s behind it.
The loader is needed counterweight for the plows but also serves as a lift for
most of the Clubbers' equipment. The past two years saw Mike and the 504
act out the part of the Grim Reaper. Central Ohio has a huge deer
population, and the carcii of a number of deer that didn't make the winter had
to be moved before plowing commenced.

Joe giving the 460 a workout with a 10' Oliver 241 wheel disk. Plagued for years with bad hydraulics, the 460's system was finally fixed two weeks before Plow Days. The hydraulics on the 460 really snap the disk out of the ground now. What a treat to use. The 460 motates smartly along in 3rd gear with this disk--it's a nice match for the 45 DB HP. Not many things sound better than that six-cylinder pulling strongly! Check out those shiney clamshells.

Equipment is made to be worked; too much sitting around takes its toll on things. Joe elected not to address the power steering pump when re-habbing the hydraulic system. At first, this may have been a mistake as the steering acted sluggish and felt 'heavy'. Getting the 460's systems up to temperature for a few hours whisked the cobwebs away. The steering now is as smooth as a baby's butt, and the black exhaust smoke cleared up.
Plow
Days participants in echelon. What a gorgeous site! We still haven't
figured out how Jill gets everyone to cooperate for a photo like this.
This shot was taken on the Hughes' Farm which is adjacent to the Shannon's Farm.
Luckily for us, the past three Plow Days have been at the Shannon's which is
roughly 3/4 mile away from the Old Oak Homestead. Mom's pine grove hill
can be seen in the left background. Mike says this field is seven-tenths
of a mile long, and it took him a half-hour to make a round. Our neck of
the woods is loaded with Olivers as can be seen in this pic.

Plow Days coming to an end. Mike and the 504 assist neighbor Jason Mathews with loading a set of 6-bottom plows. Jason is aboard his 'Beast'. It's a JD 4010 Industrial and dainty it is not! This is a very rare tractor as reportedly only ten of these gasoline powered units were ever produced, and the 'Beast' is only one of three known to esist.
